3 Ways to Decorate Blank Walls, Part Two: Mirrors

Updated: Jun 9, 2022

The #1 question I get as an interior decorator is "How do I fill all this blank wall space?" I have so many ideas for this topic, I had to break it into 3 parts: wall art, mirrors, and 3D art. In this second part of the series, I'm giving you 3 ideas for placing mirrors to make the most impact.

How to Decorate Blank Wall Space...With Single Mirrors that Make a Statment

Some mirrors make a statement simply by standing alone. Maybe there's an embellishment, like the selenite crystal you see in the center here (above, right). Maybe the frame of the mirror is funky, like this mirror in snake surround (above, left). To make sure the mirror is interesting enough to stand alone, look for mirrors with an antique finish, unique shape, or fun texture.

one set = 4 mirrors

one set = 2 mirrors

Sometimes mirrors are sold in pairs or sets, and displaying them as a "collection" of mirrors can make a huge impact. Don't be afraid to buy more than one set!

3 mirrors

2 sets = 8 mirrors

6 sets = 12 mirrors

See the greater impact multiple sets of mirrors can make? Other times, mirrors are sold separately and you have to prompt yourself and ask if buying multiples would create the effect you're going for.

How to Decorate Blank Wall Space...With a Floor Mirror

This is one of my most favorite mirrors ever. Talk about interesting, it has an acid wash finish (remember acid wash jeans?!) with hand painted blue hues. It. Is. GORGEOUS. It truly is special on its own, but you could add a large floor plant or bench for a more layered approach. If you buy this, please take a picture and send it to me, because I'm OBSESSED. I first saw it at High Point Market, and I haven't stopped thinking about it. Floor mirrors are big and take up a large amount of space, making them perfect for decorating a blank wall space.
