Need a Nursery Theme Idea? Try Geography!?!
A few months ago, I was having lunch with one of my best friends, Anna Marie. We were discussing all things baby as I was pregnant, and she has a one year old. I was filling her in about my cacti nursery theme when she said, “Have you ever noticed that most nursery themes come from geographical features?” So she didn’t exactly say “geographical features” but I couldn’t find a better way to describe it! Anna Marie listed off different nursery themes our friends had used recently, and sure enough, all geography-related! She, herself, had gone the woodland theme route. Our friends chose themes like nautical, meadow, and jungle. And from there, the idea for this blogpost was born! If you’re looking for a nursery theme idea, I hope this post inspires you.
How to Pick a Nursery Theme #1: Woodland/Mountains
The woodland/mountain theme is a popular choice right now for nurseries. I’m obsessed with this furry bear rug- it totally makes the space! I also love these wire animal wall pieces and the metal material it brings into the room. These are both great ways to add some texture in a nursery.
How to Pick a Nursery Theme #2: Nautical/Ocean
I love this yellow and navy color combo that Kelly chose for this space, and the sailboat accents are darling! The rope lamp supplies texture for the room as well. If you wanted to go more “ocean” themed, I saw this awesome feature wall idea on Instagram.
How to Pick a Nursery Theme #3: Meadow/Flowers
Henneya really made the pink pop in this space by combining it with navy. She even DIYed the curtains by adding the pink poms. In fact, that’s my favorite story about this nursery space--Henneya finished the curtains just before she went to the hospital to have her baby girl! The beautiful paper flower garland above the crib was handmade by Henneya’s friend Emily for the baby shower.
How to Pick a Nursery Theme #4: Jungle
The popularity of the jungle nursery theme is on the rise. I personally love that you can easily create a neutral nursery with a jungle theme. My favorite part about Emma’s jungle nursery is the leaf print accent wall. Also, how cute is her daughter’s name on the door? I’m also digging the leaf rug in the mood board collaboration I did with my friend Lindsay.
How to Pick a Nursery Theme #5: Desert/Cacti
I’ve been obsessing over cacti for a while now, so it only made sense to incorporate them into my nursery design for Baby Sal. In some areas, like the bookcase, I went a little more subtle with just a few accents like bookends. In other areas, like the accent/feature wall, I went more obvious with the theme. The cacti wall decals were really easy to apply, and I’m in love with the yarn name and cacti signs from The Colorful Berry.
