Why I'm Always Rooting for Fruit Wallpaper in Laundry Rooms

One of my favorite things about designing a home is finding opportunities to surprise people. Every room deserves personality, but some spaces invite you to take a bigger design risk than others. And for me, the laundry room is at the top of that list.

If you've worked with me before, you know I have a soft spot for wallpaper. No matter what the space is, don't be surprised if I bring it up to enhance the room. But a laundry room might just one of the best places to take a design risk.

Why? Because the laundry room is one of the few places where a bold pattern feels completely at home. It's a hardworking space that you typically spend just a few minutes in at a time, making it the perfect room to embrace something playful and unexpected without worrying you'll tire of it. And wallpapers with fruit belong in a laundry space! The result is a room that feels collected, cheerful, and just a little unexpected.

One of my favorite ways to design around a statement wallpaper is by keeping everything else timeless. Simple cabinetry, warm brass hardware, and natural materials allow the wallpaper to become the star. Of course, if you want to pair it with some fun lighting, I'm all about that as well!

I always tell clients that a home should have moments of surprise. Those thoughtful, unexpected details are often what makes a home feel personal and memorable. So while everyone expects a beautiful kitchen or a cozy living room, imagine opening the laundry room door and being greeted by vibrant citrus instead. It may not make laundry disappear, but it might make folding towels just a little more enjoyable.

I'd call that a win.
