Recently, I've written a few blogposts about the case for going custom when it comes to window treatments. If you can, I highly recommend going the custom route. However, it can get pricey. So if you can't go custom, do the next best thing: semi-custom. While you have to do the measuring and installation yourself, Two Pages makes it easy with great measuring and installation guides. And if you stick around to the end of this post, I'll share my 20% off code with you.
Semi-Custom Window Treatments: Roman Shades

The Roman shades you see here are the Liz Linen cordless shades in Burlywood Birch, from Two Pages. When purchasing, you'll need to select if you want an "inside" or "outside" mount. This picture features an inside mount. You'll also need to select the liner you prefer, which is based on a shading rate. I'll include a visual for you here in this post. Even though you're doing a lot of the work yourself, Two Pages provides a lot of great tools and visuals to help you!

They also offer bamboo shades, which can be a stand alone or you can layer them with linen drapery panels like you see in this photo. I love this look, and it is such a great way to elevate the look of any space!

Semi-Custom Window Treatments: Drapery Panels
Linen drapery panels are a classic look! I love these pleated panels. When you order drapery panels, you can choose the header style, or what kind of pleating you want. Personally, I prefer the pinch pleating. Again, this elevates the whole look of your space! You'll choose your lining (always get them lined!) based on how much light you want let in. Your options are privacy (60% shading rate) to blackout/thermal (100% shading rate). When you order drapery panels, drapery pins are included. Drapery pins hang on the eyelets of curtain rings which are then hung on your curtain rods. So don't forget to order curtain rings! You'll need the rings with eyelets, not clips. When measuring for your drapery panels, plan to hang about 6" wider than your window frame and 6" higher as well. This is just a starting point and guide, though. Depending on your space, these measurements will vary. We want drapery panels to look full. We also want them to touch the floor, but just barely. You'll see an option for tie backs--you don't need these! You want them to hang down freely, like you see in this picture. If you are looking for something a little bit more luxurious looking + feeling, check out their velvets!

One of the reasons I love going custom is having almost unlimited fabric options! Want to tone things down? There's a fabric for that. Want to go bold or wild? You can choose a fun pattern or printed design on your drapery panels. While Two Pages is limited in their options, they are now offering various patterns + prints! Linen is a classic choice, but you aren't limited to that and can branch out by choosing something like what you see here.
Patterns are available for the Roman shades as well. You can choose from block print patterns, plaids, etc.

Trims are another reason I'm pro custom. There are almost limitless options out there for adding a trim to drapery panels or even Roman shades. Again limited, but Two Pages now offers a selection of trims!!!
Tools for Semi-Custom Window Treatments

Two Pages is great about offering you tools, visuals, and guides to help you through the semi-custom process. This shading rate visual helps you select the window treatment lining that's best for your space. They also offer measuring guides and fabric, bamboo, and trim samples so you can see and touch everything before committing to it!

A Note About This Blogpost
I mention the company Two Pages and recommend them, because I truly think they're the "next best thing" if custom just isn't in the budget. I've had several of my DIY/consultation only clients order + use them with great success. That being said, if you use the discount code, I do earn a slight commission from that. I like to be upfront and transparent about this, and want you to know it's not the reason I recommend Two Pages. I recommend them because they make it so easy and you get great quality without having to go full on custom.
